Frequently asked questions
How do I blur a face or hide a name in a photo?
Drop the image into Skrubly, choose Blur, Pixelate or Black box, and drag over the area you want to hide. Repeat for every area, then download the result. It all happens in your browser.
Is my image uploaded to a server?
No. The image is opened and edited inside your browser, so it is not sent to us or to anyone else. You can check it yourself: load the page, switch your wi-fi off and the tool keeps working.
Which option should I use for text, ID numbers or card details?
The black box. It replaces the pixels completely. Blur and pixelation can sometimes be partly reversed, especially on small text, so don't rely on them for passwords, ID numbers or card numbers.
Will the saved image still contain my location?
No. The image is re-saved from scratch, so GPS location, camera model and other hidden metadata are dropped. For videos or documents, use the Metadata Cleaner.
Can it find faces automatically?
Not yet — you choose the areas yourself, which also means you decide exactly what is covered. If you want automatic face detection, tell us in the suggestion box below.
Is there a size limit or a sign-up?
No account and no watermark. Images up to 50MB are accepted; very large photos are scaled to a maximum of about 4000 pixels on the long side while you work on them.
