How do I make a file smaller without losing too much quality?
Drop it into Skrubly's compressor and pick Balanced. It re-encodes the file — and downscales oversized photos and videos — so it gets much smaller while still looking good. The page shows the exact size before and after, so you can try Light or Strong instead if you need to.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. Compression runs inside your browser using your own device's processor, so the file never leaves it. That matters for CVs, contracts and ID scans.
Why is my compressed PDF's text no longer selectable?
The Balanced and Strong levels turn each page into an image, which is what makes scanned documents so much smaller. Choose Light to keep the text selectable and searchable — it is lossless, but the saving is smaller.
How can I get a video under WhatsApp's or Gmail's size limit?
Compress it with Balanced first, and if it is still too big use Strong, which also reduces the resolution. Video is re-encoded on your own device, so a long clip can take a few minutes — keep the tab open while it works.
Does compressing remove the photo's GPS location?
