How to Make a Free Green Screen for CapCut (No Green Screen Needed)
Put yourself or any subject on a green screen for free — no fabric, no studio. Remove the background in your browser and export a ready-to-chroma-key clip for CapCut.
You don't need to buy a green fabric or set up a studio to use the green-screen effect. If you have a photo of your subject, you can put it on a perfect, evenly-lit green background for free — then chroma-key it in CapCut. Here's the whole workflow, and it costs nothing.
Step 1 — Put your subject on a green screen (free)
- Open Skrubly's AI Background Remover and drop in your photo.
- The AI removes the real background automatically.
- Choose the Green screen background option — your subject is now on a clean, solid green with no shadows or wrinkles a real cloth would have.
- Download the image.

Open the AI Background RemoverStep 2 — Chroma-key it in CapCut
- Add your main video to the timeline, then add the green-screen image as an overlay.
- Select the overlay, tap Cutout → Chroma key, and pick the green colour.
- Nudge Intensity and Shadow until the green disappears cleanly. Because the green is a solid digital colour (not uneven fabric), the key is far cleaner than a real budget green screen.
Why a digital green screen keys better than a cheap real one
Real budget green screens are a pain: wrinkles, uneven lighting and shadows create patchy greens that chroma key can't fully remove, leaving a green halo. A background generated digitally is one flat, perfectly even colour across the whole frame — so the key is clean the first time. You get the studio result without the studio.
It's free, and nothing is uploaded
The background removal runs entirely in your browser, so it's free with no watermark and your footage never leaves your device. That's the difference from most online tools, which upload your image to a server and charge per export.
